The Irish
Language College is about 40 miles West of Galway City and is beside
a calm inlet of Galway Bay. It was first established in 1960
and each year since has run very successful Irish Courses. Coláiste Sheosaimh,
Carna is held in Pobalscoil Charna and caters for Students from
Primary School to
Second Year in Secondary
School. Coláiste Sheosaimh, Cill Chiaráin is the Senior Coláiste and is
held in the Community Centre in Cill Chiaráin. It caters for Students from Second
Year to Leaving Cert. A special Leaving Certificate course is offered
each month. Courses are held during summer months and throughout the year.
Táimid bródúil as ár gColáiste Gaeilge.
Every effort is made to ensure that the students are
comfortable, that they use whatever Irish they have in a
normal, relaxed atmosphere and that they return home with a
positive attitude to the language. A written report on each student's
progress is sent to parents and school. The teaching methods are
based on language acquisition techniques recommended by Institiúid
Teangeolaíochta Éireann.
The courses have been fully revised and
restructured recently. Morning classes are both interesting
and beneficial to the individual student's needs with a special
emphasis on Oral and Aural work. A special effort has been
made also to introduce variety, choice and acquisition of new skills
into the afternoon sessions. For example students will have an
opportunity to participate in music, art and craft activities if
they choose. Water sports are also available. The
variety of activities undertaken at night guarantees an interesting
and educational course.
